Now is the time of year when we see many reminders of those who are in need. I remember hearing someone who spends most of her days helping others through a ministry to the poor share how important prayer is in her work. On almost a daily basis, she saw people who were in bad situations because of a pattern of behavior or people who devoted their time to "working the system," amidst those who are more helpless victims or who find themselves in temporary need of assistance.
Yet, she and others still help. They still give, understanding that they are taking a risk when they help, but it is a risk they must take.
So, let us remember not only those who need assistance, but, also, those who provide that assistance. Our prayers are necessary for their work to continue.
